Huawei Solar Battery
Solar batteries are becoming increasingly efficient and profitable. Consuming the energy produced and stored by a set-up with solar panels and a battery greatly reduces a household’s dependence on the network, offering great savings on electricity costs.
In this post, we’re going to tell you everything about Huawei Luna solar batteries, including the models we use and their characteristics.
What are solar batteries and how do they work?
Solar batteries are the part of a self-consumption system that lets you use energy after its generation. They store energy and when the solar panels stop producing (when there is no sunlight) or when more is consumed than produced, they supply the home with energy.
The connection between the photovoltaic modules and the batteries for solar panels is made through the solar inverter or through a charge regulator. The compatibility between the inverter and the batteries is key to the operation of the system. Later we will detail the compatibility between Huawei Luna solar batteries and the inverters we use at Otovo.

Huawei Luna batteries
At Otovo, we work with three types of Huawei Luna lithium batteries:
- LUNA2000-5-S0
- LUNA2000-10-S0
- LUNA2000-15-S0
These batteries are modular, so more modules can be added as required to increase the capacity of any solar set-up. The main difference between these types of batteries is the capacity – in other words, the amount of energy they can store.
Huawei LUNA2000-5-S0
The 5 kW Huawei Luna battery is the smallest in the series. This is ideal for medium residential installations and would typically allow four extra hours of self-consumption everyday, taking into account the average energy consumption of a home.
Some further characteristics include:
- It’s intended to work with string inverters
- It works with both single-phase and three-phase systems
- It has a small weight and size
Huawei LUNA2000-10-S0
Huawei Luna 10kW batteries have the same characteristics as 5kW accumulators. However, these allow more energy to be stored, which is useful in the case of homes with high energy consumption. They have a greater weight, since one more module is added.
Huawei LUNA2000-15-S0
Last but not least, Huawei LUNA2000-15-S0 is a battery designed for large homes or even corporate buildings. This battery has similar characteristics with those of the 5kW and the 10kW capacity accumulator, the main difference being the storage capacity and the size and weight.
Across all Huawei Luna solar batteries, you can expect:
- Optimised photovoltaic power generation
- Built-in plug and play battery interface
- Smart home energy management
Maintenance and installation requirements
Another characteristic that these three batteries have in common is maintenance. Lithium battery technology means that minimal maintenance is required (similar to most solar panel set-ups). They can also be installed in any area of the home, although ideally away from daily working or living areas.
What inverters are Huawei batteries compatible with?
Now that we know the characteristics of Huawei's solar accumulators, let's see which solar inverters they are compatible with:
Inverter | Huawei batteries | ||
---|---|---|---|
SUN2000-10KTL-M1 | LUNA 2000-5-S0 | LUNA 2000-10-S0 | LUNA 2000-15-S0 |
SUN2000-8KTL-M1 | Yes | Yes | Yes |
SUN2000-6KTL-M1 | Yes | Yes | Yes |

Despite being compatible regardless of the capacity of the batteries, we recommend for higher powered systems, the batteries with the highest capacity are incorporated. That’s because if the nominal power of the inverter is high, the installation can support a large number of panels. This translates into more energy produced, and therefore more energy that can be stored.
At Otovo, we advise our clients so they obtain maximum savings and maximum profitability, correctly sizing the systems according to the needs of each home.

The guarantee of Huawei batteries for solar panels
Huawei offers a 10-year warranty on these battery models, just like the other manufacturers we work with. These guarantees cover any manufacturing defects but not if the battery stops working due to its improper use. It’s always a good idea to insure your photovoltaic system – talk to your home insurance company about this.
The cost of Huawei solar batteries
Batteries are one of the most expensive elements of any solar panel system. However, the savings they generate make the initial investment of installing solar panels profitable sooner than without one.
The price of the batteries varies depending on their capacity, and other factors such as installation. But if we talk about average prices, incorporating a Huawei Luna battery would cost the following through Otovo:
- LUNA2000-5-S0: approximately £3,000
- LUNA2000-10-S0: approximately £4,800
- LUNA2000-15-S0: approximately £6,500
With Otovo, thanks to our installer comparator system, we’ve managed to obtain very competitive prices for Huawei Luna batteries for our customers. The final price of incorporating a battery into the system may vary depending on location. However, the differences are small.
And taking into account that these batteries allow self-consumption of energy instead of pouring it into the electrical network, the investment offers considerable savings down the line as you’re able to use more of your self-generated electricity.
Other Huawei PV Solutions
Apart from solar batteries, Huawei manufactures various devices for the production of photovoltaic energy, including:
- Solar inverters. Solar inverters, as we’ve already mentioned, are an essential part of a solar installation. This is the brain of the installation and transforms direct current into alternative current, which is what is used in homes. At Otovo, we install several models of inverters from Huawei which are hybrids, meaning they can go with or without a battery.
- Backup box. A device that guarantees the continuity of the electrical supply in the event of a network cut.
- WLAN-FE Smart dongle. A small device that allows the inverter to work with a 4G, 3G or 2G connection, not just WLAN. This can be especially useful at times when fibre optics or ADSL are down.
- Smart optimiser. This optimiser can increase photovoltaic production up to 30%. They’re essential in the case of roofs where shadows cannot be avoided.
- Huawei Smart PowerSensor. This is Huawei's energy smart meter.
Why do we work with Huawei?
At Otovo, we carefully select the photovoltaic materials that we include in our installations. Huawei is one of the largest manufacturers of photovoltaic solutions, having a wide range of products. The compatibility between various elements that make up the self-consumption system makes working with this manufacturer especially easy.
Other battery manufacturers we work with
In addition to Huawei, we incorporate other battery brands, including:
- Growatt
- Pylontech
Working with this wide range of batteries, we’re able to adapt our offer to the needs of each home.
Incorporating a battery into a self-consumption system is more profitable than ever due to rising energy costs. If you want to get the most out of the energy you produce with solar panels, we recommend taking the step to self-consumption with batteries.
